Canada + Quebec Student / Emerging Artist Exhibit
The University of Alberta's Theatre Design division (comprising of BFA and MFA programs) offers comprehensive training within a conservatory setting in the Faculty of Arts. Its purpose is to train designers to work within the Performing Arts including such areas as Dance, Opera, Theatre and Film and Television production design. It is a program which is taught exclusively by professionals with years of experience in performance design.
The Programs are taught holistically and in an integrated way through theoretical projects and fully realized productions. Many of our distinguished alumni have gone on to successful careers in total production design and are highly sought after because of the rigor of their training and the integrated approach to Scenographic production that the program fosters.
It is a School within a school that favors no particular form of theatre but trains students to be flexible polyvalent collaborative artists. Our successful alumni have gone on to work in the profession and can also be found as contributors in many allied arts as well as in university settings.Recent innovations include efforts to Indigenize the curriculum, Research efforts have been made over the years to include Projected Media through the acquisition of new equipment from a CFI grant award.
The University of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Cree, Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/ Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant community."
